Making an Appointment with a Careers Consultant

To make an appointment with a careers adviser, please visit the Careers Service (Livingstone Tower, level 6) or phone 0141 548 4320.

Check our opening hours for this.

Please note we cannot make appointments via email.

Many enquiries can be dealt with by our professionally qualified information team. You can meet them in the careers resource centre or phone 0141-548-4320 during opening hours with queries such as where to study at postgraduate level, how to find out about a company or a professional body or how to begin a search for jobs in Australia. At busy times you may have to wait while they are with another student. You can also email us to have queries like these answered.

CV/application checking sessions take place several times per week. To book your place on the CV/Application checking service, please read our briefing then login to MyCareer to book.

*As you can imagine the CV/Application checking service is extremely popular and to make sure everyone gets a chance you may only book one CV check in any 28 day period.

This service is aimed at undergraduate and taught postgraduate students.  Postgraduate researchers should contact reception on 0141 548 4320 to arrange an appointment with a Careers Consultant.

When booking an appointment please let us know if your student record may include personal details that are inaccurate  e.g. the name that you are currently known as and your preferred gender pronoun.

For simple or urgent queries, the Careers Service now offers bookable quick query appointments.

These appointments will be scheduled with the duty Careers Consultant and will last for a maximum of 15 minutes.

Quick Queries may NOT be used for CV checking or for more in-depth discussions. If you are unsure about whether your enquiry is suitable for a Quick Query, please telephone us or ask at reception.

You may only book one Quick Query appointment in any 28 day period.

Before booking your Quick Query appointment,  please ensure that you have reviewed our FAQs.

Please note that as these appointments only last for a maximum of 15 minutes, late arrivals will not be seen.

When booking an appointment please let us know if your student record may include personal details that are inaccurate  e.g. the name that you are currently known as and your preferred gender pronoun.

If you want help with more complex matters such as understanding your options, making a good career choice, weighing up the pros and cons of several possibilities or selecting the right employers to target, you may arrange an appointment with a Careers Consultant. To help make the best type of appointment for you, our reception staff will ask a number of questions, such as 'Can you explain what you wish to discuss with the consultant?' Please be as specific as possible and understand that they are asking these questions to help you. They are not being nosey!

Appointments have to be made in advance. We will give you the earliest suitable appointment possible but please plan ahead. We make every effort to provide an appointment within 3 weeks but this will not always be possible at busy times of the year. If you cannot keep your appointment, please tell us so that someone else can use that appointment time.

It is important that you arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will not be seen by the consultant.

If you are unable to come into the Careers Service, it may be possible to arrange a telephone or Skype appointment, at the discretion of Careers Service staff.

When booking an appointment please let us know if your student record may include personal details that are inaccurate  e.g. the name that you are currently known as and your preferred gender pronoun.

You may also arrange an appointment for a practice interview (for either a face-to-face or telephone interview). You will be asked to send in details of the post you are being interviewed for, together with a copy of your application form or CV. We need this at least 3 days before your appointment, so that the Consultant can prepare the kinds of questions that you may be asked.

To request a practice interview, call in to the Careers Service reception or place a request on MyCareer
Please note that at busy times of year, it may not be possible to schedule a practice interview at short notice.   We also have many resources available to help you prepare.

When booking an appointment please let us know if your student record may include personal details that are inaccurate  e.g. the name that you are currently known as and your preferred gender pronoun.

Email Us! if you are unable to find the information or advice you need from our website. Please be realistic about what can be answered by e-mail. It's fine for quite specific questions, but not for advising on which of 45 career options would suit you best if we have not even met you!

Please note you can't use Email Us! to make an appointment or have a CV checked.
