Information ServicesILS loans to other libraries

The Inter-Library Service (ILS) will endeavour to supply photocopies and items on loan to libraries in the UK under the following conditions:

We will usually lend the following items:

  • main collection items
  • University of Strathclyde theses if we have two copies (UK libraries only)

We will supply photocopies in accordance with UK copyright legislation.

We never lend the following items:

  • short loan items
  • whole parts of a journal
  • reference only items
  • reference only or moratorium theses (theses are not lent abroad)
  • old or valuable items
  • items in poor condition
  • special collection items
  • company reports, Mintel and Keynote reports

Conditions of loan

Items will be lent for six weeks initially and can be renewed. We reserve the right to recall an item if it is needed by one of our borrowers.

If an item is damaged or lost on return the borrowing library is responsible for the full replacement costs.

We are a member of the British Library Document Supply Scheme and CONARLS and charge accordingly to other member libraries.

Submit a request

Requests can be sent by post or email to the Inter-Library Service.

For requests inside the UK please include your BLDSC account number and a request number.

We only lend to libraries, not individuals. Individuals may wish to check our membership conditions for eligibility. If you are not entitled to membership you should contact your local library and ask them to submit an Inter-Library Loan (ILL) request to us.

We are participating in the British Library's Electronic Theses Online Service (EThOS). You can download most theses free of charge but you must register first.
