Maps and atlases
British Geological Survey (BGS) maps portal
The BGS maps portal covers the period 1832–2014.
This site includes all the maps and sections that were produced in hand-coloured form. The focus is chiefly the 1:63 360 scale maps of England and Wales, Scotland and Ireland and the horizontal/vertical sections.
Access to the electronic Ordnance Survey Map and Data Collection service, Digimap, is available to staff and students of the University.
National Library of Scotland
The National Library of Scotland's Map Images provides 48,000 zoomable maps mainly covering Scotland between 1560 and 1961.
We keep our atlases on Level 5 of the Library. Large atlases are in atlases cases, and smaller atlases are on shelves. Please ask at the enquiry point if you need help finding the atlases.
We keep sheet maps in map cabinets in Archives & Special Collections on Level 5. You can't borrow sheet maps but can study them in the Library.
Browse the contents of the collection by viewing the list of available maps (you can also use the 'find' function (Ctrl + F) to search for specific sheet maps within the PDF document).
