We have successfully partnered with numerous F&D enterprises across the UK. Through direct engagement and participation in industry wide events, such as Scotland’s Can Do Innovation and VentureFest, this helps shape how best our institutes can support the F&D industry. Below are examples of our successful partnerships with industry.

NMIS-AFRC

CaskTek, an automated cask filling system – AFRC, Siemens, Diageo & KigTek developed a solution to improve accuracy and speed of cask filling, reducing waste and mitigating expensive operational costs.

Haven, improved lead times of laser etching on wooden whisky boxes –Technology developed in partnership with Haven, a Scottish social enterprise, demonstrated it can reduce lead times from weeks to days, securing employment for the most disadvantaged people.

As part of the University of Strathclyde innovation network, NMIS capitalises on further expertise within the University and beyond, with its proven track record in supporting the F&D sector, demonstrated in such projects as Silent Herdsman, soy milk curdling and AgriRover.

Working with the Scotch Whisky Research Institute (SWRI) and King’s College London we tested the feasibility of novel approaches to provide useful fingerprint information on various types of Scotch whisky to aid detection of counterfeit and adulterated Scotch whisky.

Through the Analysis for Innovators (A4I) programme, NML has successfully supported F&D enterprises of varying sizes with a wide-array of measurement challenges, such as PepsiCo International Ltd., Purely Pickled Eggs Ltd. and The Coconut Collaborative Ltd.
