SCELG concludes Memorandum with UNITAR
Collaboration on innovative teaching of international environmental law with UN Institute for Training and Research
March 2017: The Strathclyde Centre for Environmental Law and Governance (SCELG) has concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to establish a collaboration on innovative teaching of international environmental law, as well as to arrange for internships at UNITAR for students on the new on-campus LLM in Global Environmental Law and Governance.
Prof Elisa Morgera commented:
I am delighted of the opportunity to work closely with UNITAR on innovative ways to share knowledge and build capacities in various areas of international environmental law. We will learn a lot from UNITAR’s experience in developing online training programmes and we look forward to sharing our research to contribute to new UNITAR courses. I am also thrilled that our students on the new LLM in Global Environmental Law and Governance will have the chance to support UNITAR in its work, strengthen their CVs and build an international professional network.”
Practice-led Teaching
The LLM in Global Environmental Law and Governance aims to help students critically appraise and creatively contribute to environmental regulation and governance at different levels. This requires moving beyond the traditional approach to teaching international, EU and comparative environmental law in isolation from one other. In addition, the LLM aims to equip students to understand the relevance for environmental governance of the legal practices of indigenous peoples and local communities, business entities, local administrations, and transnational environmental practitioners.
