COVID-19 has created havoc around the world. In the midst of the global pandemic (some) islands have been seen as safe havens because of their isolated nature combined with stringent quarantine measures and travel restrictions. However, even if some islands may have been spared from the worse health related consequences of the pandemic, none have been immune to its devastating socio-economic consequences.
Against this background, EILEAN has collaborated with partners to analyse the first wave of the pandemic in 2020 and how it has impacted islands around the world. EILEAN has also carried out a second collaborative project exploring the extent to which islands are considering building back better from the COVID with a specific focus on sustainability and resilience.
