Strathclyde Centre for Environmental Law & GovernanceIslands (Scotland) Act

Scotland is one of the few countries worldwide with an island specific piece of legislation. The Islands (Scotland) Act was adopted in 2018 and it has led to the first ever National Islands Plan in 2019. The Scottish Government work on islands is framed around the implementation of the Act and the delivery of the National Islands Plan.

EILEAN has been collaborating closely with Scottish Government in this respect by contributing to the consultation that led to the National Islands Plan in 2019, by sitting on the National Islands Plan Delivery Group and by having Francesco Sindico on secondment to the Scottish Government Islands Team where he is the Carbon Neutral Islands project lead.
