S5/S6 PCR workshop

We are pleased to announce our annual Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences PCR workshop for S5/S6 Biology, Human Biology and Advanced Biology pupils is now open for applications.

The sessions are scheduled for the last week in August (24th-28th). Sessions and will run in the morning (9.30 am start) or afternoon (1.30 pm start) and last 2.5 hours. During the session the pupils will cover the theory and uses of PCR and then set up a PCR reaction and practice running a gel based on a case study experiment demonstrating the use of PCR in diagnosis of genetic diseases.

Please use the booking form to indicate your preferred date and number of spaces required.

Please ensure numbers of spaces requested are not overestimated to ensure maximum attendance.

Note allocation of places is not on a first come first serve basis but balanced to take SIMD, geography and number of places required to allow the broadest demographic of pupils to be accommodated.

A charge of £5 per pupil will be requested in advance to secure places. This is required to cover the costs of purchasing reagents in advance of running the sessions and therefore are non-refundable.

Deadline for applications is the: Friday 22nd May

Outcome of schools selection: Friday 29th May

Selected schools will be invoiced by Friday 5th June with deadline for payment of Friday 19th June.
