Role:

  • Promote professional societies and careers events for undergraduates
  • Develop and review the SIPBS questionnaires for undergraduate students
  • Increase awareness of Equality & Diversity matters amongst the undergraduate student population

Postgraduate Working Group

Leader: TBC

Contributors: Ben Pickard, Lina Akil, Ruangelie Edrada-Ebel, Martin Wiese, David Breen, Isma Ahmed.

Role:

  • Understand and support the distinct needs and wishes of the PGT and PGR communities
  • Promote networking and environment within the postgraduate student community
  • Support and promote postgraduate-led symposia in SIPBS
  • Promote professional societies and careers events for postgraduates
  • Increase awareness of Equality & Diversity matters among postgraduate students

Staff Working Group

Leader: Dr Margaret Cunningham
Contributors:  Lynne Kernweiss and Callum Wilson

Role:

  • Review recruitment/induction/ADR/promotion procedures
  • Promote available internal and external training courses to support career progression
  • Promote mentoring to all categories of staff
  • Promote the SIPBS Athena SWAN Award for researchers (support provided for conference, training, childcare)
  • Review organisational matters related to staff (e.g. core hours, workload, return to work after a break)
  • Develop and review the SIPBS questionnaires for staff
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the WorkLoad Model (WLM)

Organisational Culture & Communication Working Group

Leader: Dr Veronique Seidel (Senior Lecturer)
Contributors: Prof Robin Plevin, (Head of Institute), Ian Thompson (SIPBS Head of IT), Linda Horan (Technician, Biological Protection Unit Manager)

Role:

  • Support and promote social and networking activities in SIPBS to reflect diversity
  • Organise an annual SIPBS Athena SWAN seminar
  • Develop and review the SIPBS Athena SWAN webpage
  • Promote the visibility of role models/success stories
  • Increase awareness of Equality & Diversity matters amongst all categories of staff 

Data Management Working Group

Leader:   Steven Ford

Role:

  • Monitor gender balance and ethnicity of undergraduates, postgraduates and staff regarding Athena SWAN related issues (e.g recruitment, promotion, access to training, and mentoring)
