Can I use the eGates?
I am a national of Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and the United States of America and I applied for a Tier 4 visa before I came to the UK. YES, you can use the automated eGates on arrival into the UK, free of charge. Nationals from these seven countries will also no longer need to complete a landing card on arrival. You should also keep a copy of your travel documents and boarding passes for future reference and for presentation at the University of Strathclyde.
All other nationalities with a Tier 4 visa will be required to be seen by a Border Force Officer on arrival in the UK.
Short Term Study Students - please read further information in relation to eGates and arrival at the UK Border
I am a national of Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and the United States of America and I did not apply for a visa before arrival in the UK. You must not use the eGates. If you are entering the UK for exchange, study abroad or returning for exams; you must request to see a Border Force Officer on arrival to stamp your passport with the appropriate immigration permission to study [eGate Visual Aid print and carry in your hand luggage]. You must to keep copies of your flight booking, tickets and boarding passes for your personal record to confirm your date of entry to the UK in addition to the stamp on your passport. If you leave the airport without obtaining a stamp in your passport, you will:
- not be permitted to register at the University of Strathclyde
- have to leave the UK and re-enter in order to obtain the appropriate immigration permission
If you are a national of one the countries listed above AND applied for your Short Term Study Visa before travelling to the UK you can use the eGates. You must retain a copy of your travel documents and boarding passes for presentation at the University of Strathclyde.
All other nationalities with a Short Term Study Visa will be required to be seen by a Border Force Officer on arrival in the UK.
