Registration status & funding implicationsReattend Decision

If you receive a ‘Reattend’ decision by the exam board, this means you're required to repeat the whole academic year and will not progress to the next academic year. Funding bodies refer to this as a ‘repeat year.’

You'll be charged the full tuition fee for the repeat year. You must let your funding body know as soon as possible if you must repeat a year of your studies. If you've already submitted your funding application, you can submit an update through your online funding account to notify them of the repeat year.

If you've not notified your funding body prior to the start of the academic year that you are repeating a year, you could end up with a funding overpayment.

If you must repeat a year, you may be eligible to receive funding from your funding body.

Contact us

If you're still unsure of the impact to your funding, you can email financial-support@strath.ac.uk.

In your email, please tell us what your registration status is/will be and if applicable the duration, and if you have previously had funding for a repeat year or Voluntary Suspension for medical reasons.

Plus 1 year funding

You've an extra year of full support available known as the plus 1 year and this can be used if you need to repeat a year of your course. Please note that Postgraduate students are eligible for the plus 1 year if you did not use it during your undergraduate studies.

If you must repeat a year and you've not previously used your plus 1 year of funding, you may be entitled to tuition fee support, maintenance loan, bursary, and grants.

Your funding body should automatically apply your plus 1 year if you're eligible. If you've already used your plus 1, there are circumstances (for example care experienced students) where your funding body will provide a second year of additional funding, and we recommend you contact them to discuss further.

If you're not eligible for tuition fee support from your funding body, you may be eligible for a grant towards your tuition fees for your repeated period of study from The Carnegie Trust.

Impact on University support

If you have previously used your plus 1 year funding from SAAS and you're not eligible for tuition fee support for your repeat year, you'll not receive any funding from the university’s Childcare Fund.

However, you may be eligible for support towards your registered childcare costs and living costs from the Discretionary Fund. If you think this applies to you, please email the Funding & Financial Support Team at financial-support@strath.ac.uk.
