Summary
Applications are now invited for the Borders and Shires Scholarship.
Successful applicants will be awarded a scholarship of £2,967 to pay their fees for the dissertation level of the MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic, and Heraldic Studies in academic year 2026-27.
This scholarship aims to further the education of genealogists with a focus on supporting those who have no access to other opportunities for financial support. It has been created with funding from a member of our alumni group who wishes to promote academic-level genealogical research and to honour their family’s memory.
The name "Borders and Shires" holds two meanings: First, as recognition of applicants crossing international borders to achieve academic excellence in genealogical studies; second, as an homage to the donor’s ancestors from the Scottish Borders and Dumfriesshire, plus those south of the English border in Cumberland, Derbyshire, and Nottinghamshire.
The scholarship will be awarded annually.
