    Start-Up to Scale-Up in Glasgow

    The Strathclyde Business Network are delighted to welcome a range of speakers who have mastered the art of ‘Start-Up’s’ in Glasgow. Join Fergus Moore, Kenny Arthur, Michael Youmans and Jeremie Warner as they take you through the up’s and downs of a start-up and what they have learned along the way.

    Each guest speaker will cover their personal experience – no doubt with some relatable and funny anecdotes along the way … but, the event is to allow students to pose questions to the panel and figure out the truth about starting on your own business venture.

    Pre-Commercialisation Masterclass

    This practical, one-day workshop is designed to support academics and research staff in developing commercialisation skills for the future. Ideal for early career researchers and academics who are or may be commercialising University research, the workshop will have a specific focus on intellectual property, routes to commercialisation and business modelling, participants will learn the concepts and skills needed to identify commercial opportunities even at an early-stage of research.

    Ask the Experts: What is intellectual property?

    Every company has intellectual property (IP). However, which forms offer the best commercial advantage for the business? These 1-2-1 drop-in sessions will equip you with the knowledge of different types of IP and a look at why you should (or shouldn't) protect it. These 1-2-1 appointments will be 30 minutes each and are limited in availability, so please ensure you book your space soon!

    Info Session: Better Balance Pre-Acclerator for Strathclyde Women

    The 'Better Balance Pre-Accelerator for Strathclyde Women' is an exciting opportunity for female students, staff and alumni of the University to start and grow their business ideas. Hosted by the University of Strathclyde and in partnership with the Royal Bank of Scotland, this action-focused programme incorporates learning through a unique digital portal, as well as an ‘Ignition’ kick off event and a learning and sharing celebration event. This information session will provide an overview of the programme and will give interested applicants an opportunity to ask questions 1-1.

    This hands-on workshop will walk you through the steps of defining your business model to help you start and grow an investable business. The Business Model Canvas will give clarity to your idea and you’ll create a tangible, visual document that maps your business model in a single page. This is a chance to look at your business in depth, pulling out key features such as customers, costs and revenues and what makes your company stand out from the crowd. 

    We will also have a member of the International Student Support Team available to give an overview of the Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Visa. This will give interested international students an opportunity to learn more about the Visa and to ask specific questions.

    Ask the Experts: Preparing for Investment

    Are you, or will be seeking investment in the near future?

    This Ask the Experts session will be hosted by Margaret Coughtrie, expertise in investment portfolio management and angel invesments. This is not a pitching opportunity, but an opportunity for founders to explain your company proposition, long term vision and gain advice on the challenges you may face, when you come to seeking investment for your business. Each 1-2-1 session will be 30 minutes, with an example format of 5 mins introduction on your business, 5-10 mins on your proposition/vision and challenges, 10-15 mins discussion/feedback on challenges.
