University governanceJoining Senate

Senate members have an important role in the University’s business.

Vacancies for places on Senate are advised annually through the Senate nominations process. Staff are encouraged to put forward nominations for election to Senate when vacancies arise.

The comment below is from a current member of Senate:

Being an elected member of Senate gives me an appreciation of the wider work of the University and its strategic priorities. It also allows me to see what is happening in other Faculties and explore opportunities for collaboration. Recent Senate meetings have included briefings to Senators on the Estates Development Plan, National Student Survey, University Finances, the restructuring of the academic year and other important issues. I have also served on some Senate Committees, which gives further insight into the important work carried out.
