When major life events affect mental health, technology does not offer adaptive settings to support users’ needs. Safety and privacy online is complex, varied, and individual, leaving users with the burden of adjusting or cutting themselves off. By learning from lived experiences, our research seeks to understand people’s wants and needs when going through major events, ultimately aiming to protect them from online harm and abuse.
