In Malawi, nearly 17 million people rely on groundwater for drinking water. As climate change intensifies and water demand rises, real-time monitoring data helps scientists and policymakers manage this critical resource sustainably. Tumani, a teacher (pictured), is one of many "citizen scientists" trained as a groundwater gauge reader, providing critical data to the government. Such gauge readers play a vital role in making the invisible world of groundwater visible.
