Accessibility Advocate

Abdul Eneser

Abdul Eneser is a passionate advocate for accessibility. Due to a condition called Retinopathy of Prematurity, he was born visually impaired and has been blind since the age of 14.

Abdul uses his lived experience to drive change, campaigning in Parliament, advising companies, and leading projects at Strathclyde to make systems work effectively for visually impaired students. His work is rooted in the belief that accessibility should be a core part of design, not an afterthought.

Through creativity, resilience, and powerful communication, Abdul is helping to shift how institutions and industries understand inclusion.

Q&A

Q: What kind of work have you done at Strathclyde around accessibility?

A: I started working with the Widening Access team on the Accessible Campus Project. That included making the infrastructure and the campus app more accessible. When StrathApp had a major update that was unusable with screen readers, I flagged it with the team, and now we're actively fixing those issues.

I also created a video tour series for visually impaired students. We walk through each building, describing what’s there. It gives new students a mental map before they even arrive, which helps massively with independence and confidence.

Q: How has your understanding of entrepreneurship changed over the past year?

A: If you'd asked me a year ago, I’d have said an entrepreneur is someone in a suit pitching an idea on Dragon’s Den. But since I’ve been surrounded by entrepreneurial people doing such a variety of things, my perspective has totally shifted.

Now, I see entrepreneurship as more as a mindset—thinking creatively to solve daily challenges and applying that thinking in every part of life. It’s not just about launching a business; it’s about how you approach problems and influence the world around you.
