Video guidelinesAccessibility

We’re bound by law to ensure that our content is accessible to all, including those who can’t hear audio or see video. We do this on strath.ac.uk using captions.

Captions

We require captions on all University of Strathclyde video content.

What are captions?

Captions are essentially a transcript synchronised to your video. They’re important when people need to see what’s happening in your video and get the audio information at the same time.

Format

You must provide these to the Web Team when requesting a video be uploaded to strath.ac.uk.

Please provide your captions in .srt format.

How do I create my captions?

There are a few ways to get captions for your video.

Outsource

You can outsource your captions to AI Media for a cost. We recommend this option for longer videos and webinars.

Manually

You can use free software to create your captions manually. We use one called Aegisub.

YouTube

You can upload your video to YouTube, generate automatic captions and review and correct manually.
