As a Business School, our laboratory is almost any organisation regardless of size. We have worked with all manner of enterprises from sole traders to multi-nationals in a range of all sectors. We believe the quality and value of our academic output is a function of the relationships we maintain with our external partners. In the last few years we have conducted research and delivered papers in partnership with local, national and international organisations.

Energy

This case study highlights how simulation and optimisation supported installation decision making for companies operating in the offshore wind industry. The financial consequence of this improved modelling capability was significant. In addition to the immediate financial benefits, this case study highlights how Management Science techniques can help reduce the costs of offshore wind as an energy source.

Health

This case study highlights where grass roots engagement by researchers in the Department of Management Science influenced implementation and further development of government policy on how NHS patients are contacted and flow through outpatient services.

Advanced Manufacturing

This case study highlights where Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded research at the Department of Management Science is developing tools for UK companies to better manage risks in manufacturing supply networks.
