" I am delighted to welcome new students to join the Centre for Doctoral Training in Social Dimensions of Plastics. We draw on cutting edge research in Humanities and Social Sciences to better understand how people engage with key global issues. These include emerging environmental issues such as microplastics as well as broader climate crisis related challenges. In our digital age of misinformation and disinformation the role of media and communications has never been more important in bringing about social change. We aim to equip our students with the skills necessary to thrive in this rapidly changing landscape. Currently we co supervise students with colleagues in Journalism, Media and Communication, Psychology, International business and marketing and Civil and Environment Engineering. "
Paul Flowers
Professor of Health Change, in Psychology
" As a Professor of Health Change in Psychology I am interested in how individuals and communities adapt to innovation, public health risks and environmental crises. I'm keen to work with students in exploring potential barriers and facilitators to change. We need robust evidence-based policy and provide support for all our students to engage with public bodies and Government initiatives. This ensures that interventions are based on cutting edge scientific evidence and will bring about sustained change. "
