Advanced Forming Research CentreResearch programmes

Our engineers and researchers work side by side on R&D projects that push the boundaries of technology.

The primary research programmes described below are bolstered by our commercial projects and work with consortiums on collaborative R&D projects across varying industries from automotive to aerospace and beyond.

Core research programme

Developed and overseen collaboratively by our Tier One Members with contribution from our Tier One Partners, the programme revolves around AFRC themes including forging, cold sheet forming, and materials science generating projects that cater for the industrial needs of the consortium.

The outputs of this programme directly address some of the key manufacturing challenges faced, or likely to be faced, by the companies that we work alongside every day.

Far from pure academic research, this programme is industry-led and focuses on finding real solutions to real problems.

Catapult research programme

Annual funding from the UK Government’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult allows us to develop tailor-made research programmes aimed at exploring new capabilities or investing in new equipment.

These empower us to better serve our customers and members by enhancing our expertise and capabilities.
