Alex Penn, Fair Isle

My name is Alex, and I work as an Assistant Warden at Fair Isle Bird Observatory on Fair Isle, Shetland. I’ve been lucky enough to work here for the past couple of years, monitoring the brilliant seabirds that come to breed on the isle through the summer, as well as the migrant birds that pass through in the spring and autumn that Fair Isle is equally renowned for. In that time, the isle residents here have been incredibly welcoming and it has been a pleasure being able to live and work in such an incredible place, and to feel at home as a part of the community.”

Here is Alex’s message to COP26: My message to world leaders as we approach COP26 would be to implore them to carefully consider the messages written by children from across the Message in a Bottle project, as it is these children whose futures and livelihoods depend on the decisions and commitments made at this critical event. Their views and unique outlook on these key issues deserve recognition and contemplation, by those with the power to mitigate the effects of climate change on their homes.”
