This week saw the first of our participating schools learn about climate science, renewable energy and COP26. Below are some messages to world leaders from Whiting Bay and Lamlash primary schools on the Isle of Arran:

“Build more cycle paths for cycling on! Make more electric cars! Don’t cut down rainforests! Recycle more.” – Nicolas, Whiting Bay Primary School

“Create more wave and wind turbines.” – Lucy, Whiting Bay Primary School

“Please stop using fossil fuels because it is making the world heat up and sea levels are rising. All the islands will flood if you don’t stop now.” – Anna, Lamlash Primary School

“Stop polluting the sea.” – Alfie, Lamlash Primary School

Over 25 islands schools are involved in the project, including in the Solomon Islands and Hawai’i. To keep up to date, you can follow the project on Instagram @COP26messagebottle, or on Twitter @SCELG. On our social media, you can also find an exciting message from singer, Sting, who heard about the project and wanted to send some words of encouragement, and a version of his song, ‘Message in a Bottle’, to participants.

SCELG are grateful for the funding and support of the Scottish Government.”
