In recent years there has been rapid development in technology and legislation in relation to forensic science. For organisations that use forensic science, such as the police and other law enforcement agencies, this presents a number of challenges. Developing and implementing effective policies and working practices in such a rapidly changing environment requires a detailed understanding of a range of highly specialist areas in order to optimize benefits and develop good practice.
The Centre hosts the Scottish Independent Forensics Review Service, which provides a range of impartial consultancy services for clients working within criminal justice systems worldwide. Our services include:
- Independent checking of the analysis and interpretation of forensic evidence in criminal and civil cases
- Evaluation of the robustness of cases by commenting on the strengths and limitations of the forensic evidence and the techniques utilised
- Advice on strategy development and implementation for the investigation of unsolved/’cold’ cases.
