The solution

Strathclyde University conducted an independent academic review of ScottishPower’s use of AI in retail operations. A diverse interdisciplinary team, spanning Management Science, Strategy, and Engineering, evaluated three AI case studies through workshops with stakeholders and detailed review of supporting documentation. For each case, structured feedback was provided via slide decks, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. This was complemented by broader benchmarking against best practice, mapping of AI activity, and recommendations on performance, development, and governance.

Next steps

Strathclyde University are planning to deliver a presentation to senior stakeholders, drawing together common themes across the three case studies. This will provide a clear roadmap for how ScottishPower can progress, focusing on priority improvements and guiding the next phase of AI development and deployment.

Business benefits

The review provides ScottishPower with increased confidence in current AI activities while identifying clear opportunities for improvement. In particular, it highlights the need to strengthen documentation and approaches to evaluating value. These insights are directly relevant to shaping and improving future AI deployment, supporting more robust, consistent, and strategically aligned implementation.
