Understanding why people participate in physical activity or sedentary behaviour is critical to the development of effective behaviour change interventions. Relatively little is known about changes in physical activity and sedentary behaviour over the life course, such as why people become less active as they get older.
Several of our staff conduct research within this area. Areas of expertise are:
- Physical activity & sedentary behaviour in the under 5’s, and in school-age children and adolescents - Professor John Reilly, Dr Katy Weston
- Physical activity & sedentary behaviour in prevention and management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) with focus on Diabetes - Dr Alison Kirk, Dr Katy Weston
- Behaviour change interventions with vulnerable populations - Dr Fiona Muirhead
- Intervention development using stakeholder engagement and PPI – Dr. Deirdre Harrington, Dr Katy Weston
- Active mobility inter-disciplinary research - Dr. D Harrington
