We offer a variety of study paths, ranging from beginner to intermediate 8 week classes, through to a Masters degree. The programme covers sources from across the world with an emphasis on research within the British Isles. The Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or MSc in Genealogical Studies is for anyone with an existing interest and some experience in genealogy and related subjects. It has been developed by academics and genealogy professionals to provide a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of genealogical research, family history, records, archives and heraldry. You may wish to study the field in more detail or use it in your career.

PhD in History with Genealogical Studies
The University of Strathclyde’s History department is happy to consider PhD candidates who have research topics with a genealogical focus. Second supervisors will come from the Genealogical Studies Programme tutor team with History colleagues taking the first supervisor role. The use of DNA testing is becoming an increasingly important tool within genealogical research. Members of our staff have particular expertise in this field, demonstrated through their work on the Battle of Bannockburn Family History Project.
