Borders and Shires Scholarship - applications open
We are delighted to share that applications are now being accepted for the Borders and Shires Scholarship. This scholarship opportunity is open to students embarking on the dissertation level of the MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic, and Heraldic Studies.
The aim of this scholarship is to further the education of genealogists with a focus on supporting those who have no access to other opportunities for financial support. It has been created with funding from a member of our alumni group who wishes to promote academic level genealogical research and to honour their family’s memory.
The name "Borders and Shires" holds two meanings: First, as recognition of applicants crossing international borders to achieve academic excellence in genealogical studies; second, as an homage to the donor’s ancestors from the Scottish Borders and Dumfriesshire, plus those south of the English border in Cumberland, Derbyshire, and Nottinghamshire.
Successful applicants will be awarded a scholarship of £2,967 to pay their fees for the dissertation level of the MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic, and Heraldic Studies in academic year 2026-27.
