If you already have an existing interest and experience in genealogy, take your research further with a flexible online degree in Genealogical Studies. The degree programme provides a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of genealogical research, records, archives, and genetic genealogy – with an emphasis on research within the British Isles. There are no formal exams for any of our courses; modules are achieved through completion of assignments and coursework. The University of Strathclyde’s History Department will consider PhD candidates who have a research topic with a genealogical focus. The PhD in History with Genealogical Studies is a research area within History but with co-supervision by staff from Strathclyde Institute for Genealogical Studies, giving you the opportunity to undertake a PhD with a distinctive genealogical dimension to it. (There is scope to do a joint PhD with other departments within the University e.g. Forensic Science).
