APG is pleased to announce preliminary details about the one-day APG Professional Genealogy Symposium on 24 June 2026, held in partnership with the Strathclyde Institute for Genealogical Studies (SIGS). This event is open to ALL; you do not have to be a member of APG to register.
The Symposium will be followed by the SIGS’ two-day conference Beyond the Family Tree: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on AI, DNA, Education and Community in Genealogy on 25 and 26 June 2026. The SIGS conference will be interdisciplinary in nature and will explore a variety of topics, including genetic genealogy, history, and genealogy, with parallel streams featuring keynote presentations and guest lectures.
Location
The conference will be held at the University of Strathclyde’s Teaching and Learning Building, Level 3, Joscelyn Bell Burnell Wing, 49 Richmond Street, Glasgow G1 1XU. Accessibility information for the building can be found here.
Hybrid event
This event will be offered in a hybrid format, with most sessions available online. Recordings of the presentations will be available for two months post-event. All participants will receive access to recordings of the presentations.

Lunch and tea and coffee breaks twice a day on Wednesday and an evening reception with a welcome drink and canapes on Friday evening are included in the in-person fee. We also hope to have a civic drinks reception hosted by the City of Glasgow on Thursday evening.

APG’s Symposium will be led by industry experts from around the globe and as of now, we can confirm the following topics and speakers:
- Cross-Border Marketing Your Business (Andrea Bentschneider, John Boeren, and Chris Paton)
- Ethical and Legal Considerations: AI, Copyright, DNA (Dr. Sophie Kay, Helen Tovey)
- Beyond Research: Build and Grow Your Business (two-part interactive workshop) (Mia Bennett and Fiona Brooker)
- Your Business as a Genealogical Speaker (Annette Burke Lyttle and Cathie Sherwood)
Attendees will also have ample opportunity for networking, and discussion of key issues and field specialities, such as advocacy and forensic genealogy.
Bonus recordings to watch at your leisure, including sessions on UK accounting practices and professional genealogical writing, are included with registration.
