Our top five tips for new students
At Strathclyde, our Careers Service is here to support you from day one of your studies until five years after you graduate.
Below, one of our Careers Consultants shares some top tips on why it's important to use the Careers Service as a new student:
1. We support you to make the most of your student experience!
Our Careers Consultants help you recognise the skills you gain from being involved in student societies, volunteering, work experience and any additional responsibilities you have. Learn more about building your skills and experience while at Strathclyde.
2. We help you find experience!
Log on to MyCareerhub to see the wide range of opportunities open to first year undergraduate to postgraduate students across the UK and internationally. Strath Union Opportunities advertise part-time jobs in Glasgow and volunteering opportunities. Check out our work experience and job search resources.
3. We help you make career choices!
Employers recruit from all degree disciplines, your degree is a passport to a variety of different careers. The Choosing your Career section of our website is useful starting point.
4. We run events!
We run lots of events each year with employers, professional bodies, and our Careers Consultants. Check out our Event Calendar to find out more.
5. We coach you through recruitment processes!
We support students will all aspects of a recruitment process, including writing CVs, completing applications and being successful in assessment centres and interviews.
Get involved
It is never too early to engage with the Careers Service, especially if you are a Post Graduate student. Employers are recruiting now for graduate opportunities, starting in Autumn 2022. Register to attend the Scottish Graduate Fair and speak to recruiters to learn more about their graduate roles.
