Recycling A to ZConfidential Waste

The removal and guaranteed secure destruction of confidential waste materials such as exam papers/scripts or personnel records can be done by using shredders on campus or by employing an external service provider.

Departments requiring confidential waste material destruction are advised to use the approved waste management contractor, Shredall. They provide monthly scheduled uplifts and on-site shredding.

Storing and arranging collections

It is the responsibility of your Department to ensure that the confidential waste is stored securely before uplift. The paper must be stored separately from CDs, DVDs, tapes, discs, etc.

To organise an uplift of full sacks, consoles or other storage units, you should request an uplift by filling in the details on Sharepoint Uplift Request Form. This form is also accessible by searching for "Confidential Waste" on SharePoint.

Uplift requests should include the following information:

  • monthly scheduled uplift date (every first Tuesday of the month)
  • location of storage (including room number)
  • type and quantity of storage receptacles
  • University staff contact name and number.

If you require more storage, such as sacks and other types delivered, you can also request the delivery of new receptacles. Please log requests for the uplift of waste and delivery of new containers separately.

As part of this service, it is possible to request lockable units in various styles. These units can keep your confidential waste secure whilst enabling you to store it in an accessible location.

Confidential waste system

The key features of this service are:

  • confidential waste uplift is a centralised service with a single provider
  • confidential waste is uplifted on every first Tuesday of the month during regular business hours of 9am to 5pm
  • University departments requiring uplifts should make a request for scheduled days using the Sharepoint Uplift Request Form
  • the cut-off for scheduled requests is Thursday at 4pm before uplift days.

Unexpected ad hoc requests, as well as any queries, should be emailed to confidential.waste@strath.ac.uk

The approved contractor has committed to recycling 100% of confidential paper waste collected and shredded, and to energy recovery of CDs, disks and electronic media through nominated incineration facilities.
