Strathclyde has a long-standing tradition of social science, law, and humanities research and knowledge exchange that aims to interrogate and inform social and legal justice policy and practice.
Our expertise spans several areas concerned with the exercise of public power and individual-state relationships. We have distinctive strengths in research relating to social and criminal justice, human rights and equality, and international, European, and UK public policy.
Our staff are located in a number of different Schools and our community includes several expert Visiting Professors. Students are also part of our community: we value student engagement with our justice, rights and governance research and knowledge exchange.
Strathclyde centres
The Centre for the Study of Human Rights Law (CSHRL) is a focal point for research and teaching in human rights law. Our work goes beyond academia in a range of human rights areas. We hold regular conferences and seminars that brings together the academic community, legal profession, public and non-governmental sector in Scotland, in the UK and internationally.
Amongst the CSHRL's Visiting Professors is Alan Miller, Special Envoy of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and was formerly the inaugural Chair of the Scottish Human Rights Commission (2008-2016).
