Apply
Entry requirements
Normally, a first-class or upper second-class Honours degree, or overseas equivalent.
The application
During the application you'll be asked for the following:
- your full contact details
- transcripts and certificates of all degrees
- proof of English language proficiency if you're applying as an international student
- two references, one of which must be academic
- funding or scholarship information
- research proposal of 250 to 1,000 words in length, detailing the subject area and topic to be investigated
By filling these details out as fully as possible, you'll avoid any delay to your application being processed by the University.
Before you apply
If you are interested in doing a PhD at Strathclyde, please email a potential supervisor a short proposal providing:
- a short overview of the proposed PhD project (one-pager detailing the idea in brief, making the research element clear)
- the proposed form(s) you wish to work in (e.g. is it a novel with accompanying essays, a collection of nonfiction pieces?)
- your reasons for wanting to work with that particular supervisor at Strathclyde (e.g. is there a meaningful connection between your proposed area of research and that of the supervisor and/or the broader School of Humanities at Strathclyde?)
- your proposed funding status (e.g. do you plan to apply for funding? Are you self-funded?)
Accepting an offer
Once you've accepted our offer, we'll need you to fulfil any academic, administrative or financial conditions that we ask.
