The University of Strathclyde’s Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering (NAOME) Department has established a double degree programme in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering with Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Turkey. This is the first undergraduate double degree programme of its kind between any Turkish and British universities.
According to the agreement between Strathclyde and ITU, the first two years of this programme will be held at ITU, and the final two years of the programme will be held at the University of Strathclyde. During the 4th year individual projects (aka graduation projects), students under this articulation agreement will have two supervisors: one from Strathclyde, one from ITU. Each of these supervisors will take equal responsibility for project supervision and assessment.
If you would like more information, please contact Strathclyde from naome@strath.ac.uk or Dr Mustafa Erden Yildizdag (yildizdag@itu.edu.tr) from ITU.
Programme Information:
This programme started in 2021 and is currently recruiting students through Turkey’s OSYM process.
Tuition Fees and Scholarships:
All students registered for this programme who have successfully completed their first two years at ITU will receive a guaranteed 15% scholarship for their tuition fee for their third and fourth year of the programme at Strathclyde. The tuition fees are determined by the University annually and announced on this website. On this page, students should click on the undergraduate fees and find the international students fees for full-time programmes in the Faculty of Engineering.
Students who achieve a GPA of 3.50 at ITU will receive an additional merit-based tuition fee scholarship of £1000 (one thousand pounds) for their first year at Strathclyde (year 3 of study). Students who achieve 70% (credit weighted average) or above in their first year at Strathclyde will receive an additional merit-based tuition fee scholarship of £1000 (one thousand pounds) for their second year at Strathclyde (year 4 of study).
If students registered for this double degree program wish to stay at Strathclyde to pursue an MSc within the Faculty of Engineering, they will receive a 15% scholarship on their MSc tuition fee and they will get a Strathclyde MSc degree.
Cost of Living:
Preparing your budget for the duration of your studies is probably the most important thing you can do before leaving home. The University has created a webpage for international students with guidance on the cost of living. We suggest you please check this website before you prepare your budget. The Student budget calculator is a great tool for helping international students plan and manage their money for studying in the UK. The budget calculator shows you average monthly living costs for students at Strathclyde. You can also customise the expense items in the calculator based on your interests and outgoings to obtain a more realistic average monthly living cost for yourself.
