International Consortium on Writing in Teacher Education

ICWTE is co-sponsored by Strathclyde Institute of Education, University of Strathclyde Glasgow and Institut for Læreruddannelse, University College Copenhagen.

ICWTE forwards research and professional practice on writing in teacher education and among practising teachers. Teachers are writers, as their professional work requires them to create and use a wide range of professional documents. As well, writing, and academic literacies more broadly, are significant for both learning and assessment in teacher education settings. ICWTE focuses on the adult writing of teachers, teacher educators, and ITE students with the overall goal of illuminating the importance of teachers' literacy practices across the professional lifespan. Our work spans initial teacher education to school-based professional learning, postgraduate continuing education for practicing teachers, and teachers’ school-based professional writing.

Strathclyde Institute of Education: Strathclyde Institute of Education is Scotland’s largest ITE provider and home to a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate taught, and postgraduate research courses. Historically rooted in Glasgow Normal School – the UK’s first dedicated teacher education institution – SIoE’s research and teaching encompass all facets of education across the lifespan. 

Institut for Læreruddannelse, University College Copenhagen: University College Copenhagen (KP) is one of Denmark’s main providers of teacher education. The four-year Teacher Education programme at Copenhagen University College (KP) is a professional bachelor’s degree programme qualifying graduates to teach in the Danish public school system (Folkeskole), integrating subject studies, educational theory, pedagogy, and school-based practice placement. Students specialize in a selection of teaching subjects and engage with core areas of the teaching profession.
