The Department of Work, Employment and Organisation has an international reputation for high quality teaching at postgraduate level as well as a wide range of research degree opportunities.

The Department is an approved provider of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) qualifications. The CIPD is the professional body for HR and people development. The not-for-profit organisation champions better work and working lives and has been setting the benchmark for excellence in people and organisation development for more than 100 years. It has more than 135,000 members across the world, provides thought leadership through independent research on the world of work, and offers professional training and accreditation for those working in HR and learning and development.

Recognition for 70 Years of Professional Education in HRM

The Department of Work, Employment and Organisation was recognised for its contribution to Scottish HR in the 2018 HR Networks Awards. This acknowledged a longstanding and sustained contribution to the Scottish HR profession. The Department has been offering professionally-accredited programmes in HRM since 1948/49. The award also recognised Strathclyde’s ethos of being a place of useful learning, which has sustained a positive level of engagement with the HR community in Scotland and beyond, through teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities.

MSc Human Resource Management

This programme can be studied full-time or part-time. However you choose to study, the programme will explore innovative opportunities for effective human resource solutions and considers the impact from globalisation, technological advance and changing workplace demographics in gaining sustainable competitive advantage from the management of people.

The course enables participants to gain associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (AssocCIPD). Upgrade to Chartered Member and Chartered Fellow is by direct application to CIPD when the required level of work experience and behaviours have been successfully achieved.

MSc International Human Resource Management

This course develops an understanding of how and why human resource policies and practices differ across the world and how companies address these challenges. The course will encourage students to think more practically about the skills required to manage in an international context. Subject to approval, completion of the programme will enable participants to achieve Associate Membership of the CIPD.

MSc Occupational Psychology

This programme will develop understanding of organisations and people in work using the specialist knowledge and analytical skills offered by psychology. This is the only course in Scotland to provide a Stage 1 qualification towards professional membership of the Division of Occupational Psychology with the British Psychological Society

This programme will develop understanding of organisations and people in work using the specialist knowledge and analytical skills offered by psychology. Learn advanced quantitative and qualitative research methods for psychology and develop data analysis skills which can be applied to the workplace
