Careers ServiceWork experience

Working while you study full-time may be an economic necessity. But, you can turn it to your advantage in many ways:

  • develop the skills employers expect you to have as a graduate
  • having experience in work will make you a more interesting prospect to employers. It will increase your confidence in yourself
  • it gives practice at making applications and going for interviews
  • it can help with future decision-making about careers. It helps you understand your work likes and dislikes better
  • allows you to network with organisations. This could prove useful when job seeking after graduation
  • many national employers now recruit directly from their summer work programmes. Some even offer sponsorship to students for their final year
