We have strong links with businesses of all sizes, charities, the health sector as well as government and international agencies. Our long-standing student placement scheme is particularly successful, and a our academics have excellent track records for applying their research, making a difference all over the world.
We're always looking out for new opportunities to work with businesses and organisations and help them develop new materials, products and services.
One of our strengths here in the Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry is our is strong track record in applying our research to the outside world. We do this by working closely with external companies and organisations in many different sectors.

Licensing opportunities
We have a number of opportunities available for external companies and organisations.
We're one of the UK’s top 10 institutions for licence royalty income, based on our researchers’ innovations and discoveries. The University has cumulative royalty income of £42 million and our current IPR portfolio includes around 100 licensing opportunities.

Industrial Placement Scheme
We know how important it is got our students to gain relevant industry experience while they're here at University. We also know how beneficial our students could be to businesses and organisations. That's why we have our Industrial Placement Scheme. It's one of the largest and longest running in the UK and is an integral part of several of our degree courses.

Our student-led Chemistry Clinic provides opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and larger companies to access chemistry facilities or consultancy services, for large or small projects.
