Our facilities Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) A purpose built unit, it houses magnet room, technical support office, data processing laboratory and sample preparation and handling laboratory. Mass Spectrometry The Mass Spectrometry facility provides analysis of novel synthesised compounds, large and small molecules covering a mass range of 50- 150,000Da, depending on the instrument employed. Elemental Analysis We provide a quality service for the analysis of virtually all elements in the periodic table, with experience in analysing a wide range of sample types from synthesised organic and inorganic compounds (including polymers), to waters, effluents and environmental digests. X-Ray Crystallography There are both single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction (SXD and PXRD) facilities available in the Department. Though these normally run samples for Strathclyde based academics, they are also available for commercial hire. Protein Synthesis This instrument brings us the capability to synthesise peptide and small protein derivatives up to 100 amino acid residues in length. Fast and efficient coupling protocols, together with on-line monitoring and feedback enables the rapid synthesis of complex peptides in a fully automated fashion. The Chemistry Clinic The Chemistry Clinic is a student-led service which provides opportunities for small and medium enterprises along with larger companies to access chemistry facilities or consultancy services, for large or small projects, as required.
