The University of Strathclyde has risen in the rankings of the UK-wide Complete University Guide (CUG).

Strathclyde is up one place to 31st, out of 130 institutions, in the UK in the 2023 edition of the rankings. It is also placed fourth in Scotland.

The University is in the top 10 for 12 individual subjects, including Forensic Science, for which it is ranked first in the UK. It is also placed second for entry standards.

The achievement reflects a year in which the University has built upon its reputation for research quality and intensity, innovation, productive industrial engagement and high-calibre teaching, as well as recognised world-class activity to improve sustainability and a thriving culture of entrepreneurship.

In the past year, the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, in which Strathclyde is a founding partner, has officially opened and the University is, along with its partners, preparing for the imminent official opening of the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland

In addition, Strathclyde was placed joint 36th in the world in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for its work in addressing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Strathclyde, said: “Our ranking in the Complete University Guide is evidence of the impact and quality not only of our research, teaching and industry engagement but also of our socially progressive approach.  Fundamental to this is the professionalism, expertise and dedication of our excellent staff across all categories.

“In our daily business, and the priorities which underpin it, we are committed and dedicated to safeguarding the environment, improving health, building strong economies, contributing to culture and fostering a just global society. The efforts of our staff and students have cemented our place in that society.”
