Terms and conditions
Eligibility
- PhD students enrolled at Strathclyde University.
- Any member of research staff or teaching and research staff employed by Strathclyde University.
- Technical, professional services or support staff employed by Strathclyde University.
Images can be submitted by an individual or a group given it meets the following terms and condition.
- Images are wholly created by the entrant(s).
- Images created by the entrant incorporating others’ work is permitted given the entrant can prove the image is free for use or they have permission to use the image.
- The entrant has significantly altered someone else’s work (and they have permission to do so) to make it more relevant to their research. For example, this could be by creating a collage of several images or by significantly altering a single image created by someone else.
Copyright, Consent, and Liability
- Copyright Ownership and Licensing:
- By entering this competition, you consent to the University of Strathclyde retaining the right to use all submitted entries (including those not selected for reproduction) in materials without requiring further permission from you. These materials may include, but are not limited to:
- Exhibitions (both printed and online).
- Websites.
- Print and promotional materials.
- As the entrant, you retain full intellectual property rights, including copyright, for your submission.
You hereby grant the University of Strathclyde a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence in perpetuity to reproduce works based on your submission without any obligation to compensate you. Proper credit will be given to the copyright owner (e.g., © [Year] [Name]).
Entrant Responsibilities:
It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure:
- Permissions for Recognisable Individuals:
- Secure written permission from anyone recognisable in your submission.
- Email their consent to imagesofresearch@strath.ac.uk, ensuring they are provided with this email so they may withdraw their consent at any time, if desired.
- Third-Party Intellectual Property:
- Ensure your submission does not infringe upon any third-party intellectual property rights.
- If your submission includes materials owned by others, you must obtain written authority from the contributors:
- To submit their work as part of your entry.
- To grant the University of Strathclyde a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce works based on your submission.
- Third-Party Materials for Event Promotion:
- If your submission or related materials used to promote the competition include third-party intellectual property (e.g., copyrighted images, designs, or text), you are responsible for:
- Securing permission to use the materials on competition webpages or other promotional platforms.
- Providing appropriate acknowledgment in compliance with the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) or any applicable licences or permissions.
- If your submission or related materials used to promote the competition include third-party intellectual property (e.g., copyrighted images, designs, or text), you are responsible for:
University Liability:
The University of Strathclyde will not be held liable for any issues arising from an entry. Entrants are solely responsible for ensuring that their submissions comply with all applicable laws and regulations
