The place of useful learning

Our programmes are built on our cutting-edge research, which will prepare you for a future career that may well go beyond the traditional boundaries of physics. Our graduates have an excellent record in finding prestigious, well-paid and interesting jobs.

Careers Support

All our undergraduate and postgraduate courses have bespoke careers support embedded within them. Your access to our award winning careers service lasts for up to five years after graduation.

Degrees

The taught degrees offered by the Physics department have modular classes. Each of the modules has a credit weighting and associated academic level.

Academic year

The academic year at Strathclyde comprises two semesters of formal teaching:

  • Semester One runs from mid-September to the end of January
  • Semester Two runs from February to mid-June

If you're studying for an MSc, you undertake your project in the third semester, from June to September.

At the start of the first semester of each year you'll meet with your Adviser of Study to decide on the classes that you'll take. These include both compulsory and optional classes. If you do not like an optional class then it is possible to change that class up to the end of the third week of each semester.

Exams are held at the end of each semester. Re-sit exams take place in August.
