Scottish Centre for the Application of Plasma-Based Accelerators (SCAPA)
We use high intensity, femtosecond laser pulses as the driver for novel high brightness sources of high energy particle beams (electrons, protons, neutrons and light ions) and radiation pulses (THz, infra-red, X-rays and gamma rays).
Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics
Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics, UK, is a world-leading centre in the field of applied laser research and development. Our principal aim is to perform industry driven research to enable new or improved products and processes for industrial partners. We develop lasers and optical systems for applications including energy, security, environment, sensing, space, lifesciences and quantum technologies.
Electron Microscope Facilities
We operate a suite of five electron microscopes. These are primarily used for characterising semiconducting materials and devices, but can be accessed by other groups in the University or in collaboration with industry partners.
Research Computing for the West of Scotland (ARCHIE-WeSt)
ARCHIE-WeSt is a regional supercomputer centre at the University of Strathclyde available to academia and industry in the West of Scotland.
Strathclyde Neurotechnology Centre
At the Strathclyde Neurotechnology Centre, our research focuses on developing devices that interface with neural systems including advanced retinal prosthetics, and optogenetics devices.
Semiconductor Microfabrication Facilities
The Institute of Photonics operates an industry-standard cleanroom suite. It contains fabrication, test and assembly equipment for manufacture of micro-scale optoelectronic and photonic devices.
Photonic and Quantum Accelerator
The Photonics & Quantum Accelerator (PQA) in an EPSRC Place Based Impact Acceleration Account that unites researchers from the Universities of Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, St Andrews and Strathclyde to advance the growth of the photonics sector in Scotland’s Central Belt.
